Functional Skills – Maths

his course is designed to help learners develop skills and gain confidence in Maths and to achieve an accredited qualification. Our courses range from Entry 1 through to Level 2 to enable you to progress from your current level.
Each course is aimed at learners (aged 19+)  who struggle with their Maths skills and wish to improve their skills and learn how to use them in everyday situations.

Learning outcomes include: 

(depending on level)

  • Basic skills: multiplication, adding, subtraction and division
  • How to calculate percentages, fractions, decimals
  • How to recognise a range of different 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.
  • Using a range of different units and equivalents
  • How to calculate area and volume of a range of shapes
  • How to use statistical measurements such as averages, mode, median and ratio.
  • How to design, draw and evaluate charts and tables

FAQs

Who is it for?  This course is for adults who do not already hold a grade C GCSE and would like to progress to or achieve a Level 2 qualification.

What will you do?  You will learn a range of skills to enhance your Maths ability across a range of areas used in everyday situations.

How will the course br delivered and assessed?  You will be taught and assessed by our specialist teaching team throughout the duration of your studies. There is a formal written exam at the end of this course, however the tutor will monitor your progress through online activities as well as directed learning to enable you to achieve the qualification. 

What is a Level 2?  In achieving Level 2, you will gain the equivalent to a C or higher grade at GCSE, meaning that you can demonstrate your ability to understand and use everyday maths at this level. This is usually the minimum level/grade that employers require and some universities will accept a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in place of a GCSE. 

Future career or opportunities to study?  Students who complete this course will be ready to progress to other courses provided by CCBED or other training providers or further employment opportunities.
